Kansas Arts Commission

Operational Support Grant Program Guidelines

Application Deadline: May 5, 2011

Through Operational Support Grants, the Kansas Arts Commission offers financial assistance to nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable 501(c)3 arts and cultural organizations or governmental arts and cultural entities with at least a three-year history of incorporation or operation as an independent entity.

The award is based upon the applicant’s previous year's actual expenses and the amount of funds available in this program category. These grants are not project-based; instead, they support the daily work of arts and cultural nonprofit organizations and agencies: supporting personnel, supplies, materials, equipment – whatever the entity needs to function efficiently and effectively. It is up to the grant recipient to determine how the funds are spent.

All grant recipients must demonstrate a 1:1 match (25% of the match may be in-kind).

Important changes for FY2012:

1.

Due to anticipated decreases in the Kansas Arts Commission's budget, to be eligible for Operational Support funding applicants must have received Operational Support in FY2009, FY2010 and/or FY2011.

2.

Applications must be received by the Kansas Arts Commission no later than 5:00 pm on on May 5, 2011.

3.

Proposed budgets are no longer required for this grant program.

Objectives:

1.

To strengthen the administrative and programming capabilities of arts and cultural organizations.

2.

To enable arts and cultural organizations to provide high quality, accessible arts activities, programs and services to their constituencies.

3.

To support arts and cultural organizations in the planning and development of long-term goals, guiding the evolution of their arts programs and services and enabling them to meet the changing or expanding needs of their constituencies.

4.

To augment – not supplant – local support for arts organizations.
