ARRA funds preserve 16 arts jobs in Kansas

Twelve Kansas arts and cultural organizations each received a portion of $262,556 in funding to preserve jobs in the arts through the Kansas Arts Commission's Grants for Kansas Arts Jobs Program. Funds for the program were provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 through the National Endowment for the Arts.

Award recipients were:

  • Arts Connect, Topeka – $17,000 (1 job)

  • Arkansas City Area Arts Council – $34,000 (4 jobs)

  • Arts Partners, Wichita – $16,830 (1 job)

  • Carnegie Arts Center, Leavenworth – $18,417 (1 job)

  • Columbian Theatre Foundation, Wamego – $34,000 (1 job)

  • Emporia Arts Council – $7,289 (1 job)

  • Junction City Arts Council – $6,765 (1 job)

  • Kansas City Performing Music and Arts Association, Kansas City, Kan. – $5,950 (1 job)

  • Lawrence Arts Center – $33,663 (1 job)

  • Lied Center of Kansas, Lawrence – $34,000 (1 job)

  • Salina Community Theatre Association – $29,142 (1 job)

  • Theatre Atchison – $25,500 (2 jobs)

“The Kansas Arts Commission is proud to a play a role in preserving jobs in the arts during this economic downturn,” said John Divine, Chairman of the Kansas Arts Commission. “These funds will retain key employees for arts organizations and help facilitate a necessary boost to the economy in Kansas.

“It’s exciting that the economic impact of the arts are recognized by Washington and are included in the stimulus package,” he said. “As shown in a recent study, the nonprofit arts and cultural industry contributes $153.5 million to the Kansas economy.”
