Museum Assistant

A unique position assisting, promoting and contributing to a nationally recognized, up-and-coming, new contemporary arts center in Greensburg, Kansas.

Only an hour-and-a-half drive from Wichita, the 5.4.7 Arts Center is a community arts center that is dedicated to raising awareness of the arts, both visual and performing, making arts accessible to everyone and providing an environment to create and learn through classes, exhibits and performances.

This intern position is an assistant position to the Director and Founder, Stacy Barnes.  The intern chosen would be assisting in all levels, promoting the 5.4.7 Arts Center in every way possible to contribute to its growth.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from a museum professional, to earn a recommendation for further opportunities and future employment and to see through growth of this important, nationally-recognized not-for-profit.

This position requires:

  • A general knowledge of contemporary art

  • An eagerness to work independently, to be self-motivated

  • Ability to do research, professional telephone and email correspondence

Daily tasks include:

  • Administrative duties such as filing, emailing, polite and professional phone manner, computer literacy with programs such as Word and Excel

  • Email and telephone correspondence with collectors, corporations, galleries and museums

  • Extensive research

  • Assistance with installation, promotion and marketing of exhibitions

  • Assistance with compiling information for grant proposals

Requirements:

  • College student

  • Commitment of 2-3 days a week either on-site or from home, depending on the project and demand. Also looking for a person to commit for at least one semester.

Web Desiger/Programmer

This internship offers a unique position to design and visually brand the website for a nationally recognized, up-and-coming contemporary arts center in Greensburg, Kansas.

Only an hour-and-a-half drive from Wichita, the 5.4.7 Arts Center is a community arts center that is dedicated to raising awareness of the arts, both visual and performing, making arts accessible to everyone and providing an environment to create and learn through classes, exhibits and performances.

This intern will work closely with the Director and Founder, Stacy Barnes, to create a new and appealing visual design concept for the art center’s website.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use this work to add to your personal design portfolio. It is excellent training for professional experience and a way to help increase the visual profile and prestige of this visionary not-for-profit.

This position requires an ambitious person who has a great knowledge of web-design, their own equipment to perform changes and further develop an existing web site, and great creativity to make this site a fantastic one!

Tasks include meeting with the founder/director of 5.4.7 Arts Center, to collaborate with the center on a very professional, creative website, and to perform all the efforts that it would take to improve the existing website into a more contemporary presence.

Requirements include: a student who has a lot of experience working on the web, has developed their own website and others, and has a passion for making this effort an addition to his or her portfolio. Must be available at least one day a week either on or off-site, to perform the necessary steps to build this website.
