Education Program Coordinator
Lawrence Arts Center

The Education Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day to day function of seven visual arts studios including ceramics, jewelry/metalsmithing, drawing, painting, printmaking, digital media, and photography, while assisting the Arts Education Director in all visual arts program related matters. This full time salaried position involves a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. Benefits include vacation, sick leave, health, dental and flexible spending accounts.

Successful candidates need to be highly organized, self directed with a willingness to be a team player in a collaborative environment. Candidate must be knowledgeable in many different areas of fine arts in order to facilitate a studio environment conducive to artistic excellence. Ideal candidates will have an ability to prioritize tasks, provide exceptional customer service, and solve problems under sometimes hectic conditions. This job involves physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs. A minimum of a Bachelors degree in fine art or art education is required and experience working in a professional arts organization preferred.

Responsibilities include:

Primary management of visual arts studios to ensure they are clean, organized, and functional for all classes offered each session. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor, maintain and fire the gas and electric kilns throughout the year. Coordinate with teachers, students and the public on clayware, firing schedules, and studio usage

  • Work with staff to ensure routine cleaning and repairs are completed in a timely and efficient manner

  • Coordinate routine maintenance and repair of computer equipment in Digital Media lab

  • Work with teaching staff to acquire and distribute material lists for classes

  • Maintain and update the MSDS in each studio

  • Set up and arrange studios in preparation for classes and workshops and assign lockers

  • Work with the City on the disposal of hazardous chemicals

  • Facilitate the removal of student artworks and materials at the end of each session

  • Process material donations for studio use. Work with staff to determine proper distribution of donated materials among LAC programs

  • Schedule and supervise models for life drawing/painting classes

Procure program supplies, solicit appropriate purchasing approvals and maintain routine supply inventories in each studio. Coordinate with teaching staff regarding special supplies & equipment needed for classes. Track expenditures as directed by Arts Education Director.
Provide support to the Arts Education Director in the promotion, orientation and supervision of Artist in Residence program.

Assist with the planning and implementation of the annual Souper Bowl fundraiser.

Assist the Arts Education Director in developing visual arts session classes for the Arts in Action publication.

Monitor enrollment and provide the appropriate follow up with administrative staff, teachers and students regarding class status.

Work with Arts Education Director to evaluate, plan, and implement studio upgrades as needed.

Facilitate the distribution and collection of class evaluations, working with administrative staff to process accordingly.

Perform other duties as assigned.
