  • Arts Educator News Moves to Facebook

    To better serve our arts educators, we will no longer distribute monthly eblasts. Instead, we have created a Facebook pages for Kansas Arts Educators to post timely information and provide a discussion forum.

  • Kansas Arts Commission Survey Results Support Value of Arts Education to Kansas Teachers and Administrators
    The Kansas Arts Commission has released the results of a survey that demonstrates the value Kansas teachers and school administrators place on arts in education. The findings also help to inform the Commission on future arts education initiatives.

  • Second week in September designated as Arts in Education Week Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.Con.Res. 275, legislation designating the second week of September as Arts in Education Week. This resolution is the first Congressional expression of support celebrating all the disciplines in arts education. This comes at a key time when Congress is making plans to overhaul federal education policy. Send a message of support for arts education to your member of Congress! (August 2010)

  • 21st Century Skills Map for the Arts was released on July 15 during a briefing of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. The Partnership for 21st Century Skills has worked with professional education associations to create 21st Century Skills Maps in English, Social Studies, Science, and Geography. The 21st Century Skills Maps are posted on the Partnership for 21st Century Skills website.   • Dana Foundation Report released Acts of Acheivement: The Role of Performing Arts Centers in Education, a study on how partnerships between schools and local arts organizations can effectively boost arts education in a community.(November 2009)

Opportunities

  • One Day on Earth is an international documentary and new media project, open to anyone from kindergarten students to professional cinematographers, committed to filming the 24-hour period of October 10th, 2010. More than a film, One Day on Earth is a multi-platform participatory media project. The flagship of this project is a 120-minute documentary to be released theatrically.   • National Certification Program in Community-Based Arts for Youth, Crossroads Institute for Arts, Learning & Community in New Orleans, LA, has announced is offering a one-year, 175-hour certification program for arts, education and social service agencies serving at-risk youth in July 2011. Using a combination of face-to-face and distance learning modalities, the program will help organizations increase their effectiveness, expand their programs and access new networks of financial and professional support.
