Kansas Arts Commission

Step 1: Who May Be Nominated

  • Individuals, businesses, organizations or institutions involved in arts and cultural activities whose primary address is in Kansas. Nominees in the Arts Patron category are exempt from the address requirement.

  • A city or county in Kansas.

Nominees must be nominated by a Kansas community member who is not an official or employee of the entity or anyone with a close familial (defined as a spouse, parent, children or sibling) or fiduciary relationship to the nominee.

An organization, business or community must be nominated by someone in the community it serves, not by an official or employee of the entity.

Nominators must have a Kansas address. A nonprofit organization submitting a nomination must attach a letter of endorsement signed by its board president.

If more than one nomination is submitted for the same nominee, only the first nomination received will be considered. Check with colleagues, board members, or friends of the nominee before initiating a nomination. To reduce the possibility of duplication and enable consolidation of the best information for the nomination packet.

Arts projects, current members of the Commission or its staff, previous Governor’s Arts Award honorees, self-nominations and posthumous nominations are ineligible. Current Kansas Arts Commission staff or Commissioners may not submit nominations.
