Blue and Gray Brass Brigade

The Blue and Gray Brass Brigade is a seven-piece Civil War-era musical ensemble that performs 19th century brass band music.

Program Descriptions

The ensemble’s presentation begins with the playing of a historical version of the “Star Spangled Banner.” Other songs performed include “Dixie’s Land,” “Glory Hallelujah,” “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” “Battle Cry of Freedom,” “Listen to the Mocking Bird” and “Stars & Stripes Forever.”

The ensemble focuses on music from 1840-1900 and features composes Stephen Foster, Claudio Grafulla, George Root, Daniel Emmett, John Phillip Sousa and music from Ken Burns’ “The Civil War.” Much of the music is played from the original arrangements acquired through the Library of Congress.

Performance Fees
  • Performances (2 - 1/2 hours): $1,000 to $1,650 (within 150 miles of Kansas City)
  • Performance: $1,650 to $2,850 (add expenses beyond 150 miles of Kansas City)
  • Adjunct school concerts: $700
Technical Requirements
  • Minimum floor space 16’ wide x 12’ deep
  • Quality sound system with 6-8 microphones
  • Seven Manhassett style music stands
  • We can provide sound and other equipment for certain venues.
