Kansas Arts on Tour Roster - Traditional and Acoustic Music Ensembles

TurpinTyme Ragsters

TurpinTyme Ragsters

The TurpinTyme Ragsters are a seven-piece ensemble that recreates bygone sounds of the Ragtime era.

Program Descriptions

TurpinTyme Ragsters turn the clocks back to an era of ceiling fans, ice-cream socials and Sunday concerts in the park with a program featuring songs from turn-of-the-century-century America. The group performs popular old-time music by composers such as Scott Joplin, Eubie Blake, Joseph Lamb Jelly Roll Morton and their namesake, Tom Turpin.
The program unfolds with toe-tapping ragtime melodies accompanied by historical, biographical and humorous commentary.

The TrupinTyme Ragsters’ repertoire includes I’m Alabama Bound, Ashy Africa, Black and Blue Rag, Blacksmith Rag and The Buffalo Rag.

Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary. — Cecil Beaton
