Kansas Arts on Tour Roster - Dance and Movement Theatre
Ballet Wichita
Program Descriptions
- The Nutcracker (2 hours): For the past 30 years, the Metropolitan Ballet of Wichita has presented the wonderful holiday ballet The Nutcracker to audiences throughout Kansas. The ballet has a cast of 70 dancers and full theatrical sets.
- Prairie Tale (1 hour): Prairie Tale is an original one-hour ballet about a monarch butterfly’s journey across Kansas. As the butterfly makes her way across the state, she encounters sunflowers, buffalo, meadowlarks and a Kansas thunderstorm. This entertaining and educational ballet is performed to the acoustical bluegrass style music of Grandpa’s .38 with Tom Page and Pat McElmurray.
Note: Jill Landrith, the Metropolitan Ballet’s artistic director, will present a lecture demonstration on dance. Educational materials will be available to encourage further discussion of Kansas themes for young audiences.
