Kansas Arts on Tour Roster - Storytelling
Margaret Meyers
After a career teaching the foundations and limits of knowledge, Margaret found the truth about story—that it captivates both adults and children and imparts deep wisdom. To learn this ancient art, Margaret traveled halfway across the country to study storytelling at East Tennessee State University, earning a Master of Arts in Storytelling. Her studies included performance, linguistics, the oral tradition, and cultural aspects of storytelling. Many of the greatest storytellers in the country were her teachers. Honoring them and all storytellers around the world and through the years, she tells stories with love for the work and for the world.
Program Descriptions
Margaret Meyers tells original and traditional stories of fools and wise people, of courage and persistence, and finding your way home. As you find yourself walking through a dark forest, crossing the ocean in a stone boat, or entering a castle where things aren’t quite right, Margaret invites you to speak the magic words, guess what comes next, or help direct the plot of a story. Songs, music, rhythm play, and puppets delight younger audiences. Unusual and deep stories captivate middle school, high school and adult audiences. Meyers tells in schools, libraries, festivals, teacher in-services, businesses, clubs, mental health programs, and detention centers.
