Carter Hall Performers

Carter Hall (Larry Carter) is the playwright, composer, Narrator and Villain for this melodrama. He has been performing in music and theater for more than 25 years, including previously in the Celtic band Rowan and currently in the folk band Forest Green. In addition to being a three-time champion in the Kansas Fiddling & Picking Contest, he produces the annual "Lawrence Scottish Fest" and a weekly folk concert series. Members of his six-person troupe also have extensive performance backgrounds, including former college theater instructor Bob Garrett as Director.

Program Descriptions

Imagine an all-ages musical melodrama of the “Pied Piper” that features YOUR KIDS scampering on stage in cute rat costumes, add an Evil Villain (photo) for the audience to hiss at and a Hero (the Girl on Crutches) to cheer, kick it off with an all-ages concert by Carter Hall and his ensemble, and you have an evening with Carter Hall Performers.

Carter Hall and his six-person troupe present an original, interactive melodrama that starts with the traditional Pied Piper tale, but then reveals for the first time the Evil Villain behind the rest of the story. A 90-minute workshop and YOUR KIDS are ready to join us on stage.

For those on a tighter budget, Carter Hall performs “Pied Piper” solo, starting with an all-ages mini-concert then acting as both the Narrator and Villain, including a song & dance number with YOUR KIDS as "The Rats."

The experts say…

“I liked being a rat and pretending to eat cheese.” - Ella, age 4

“I loved the song where the rats come in. I still sing the song A LOT!” - Madeline, age 5

"More than a children's show, this is quality family entertainment." - Carla, ageless

Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary. — Cecil Beaton
