Kansas Arts on Tour Roster - Theatre
Theatre for Young America
Theatre for Young America is a professional Equity theatre that has presented live theatre and drama classes and workshops in the Kansas City area and Kansas since 1974. Productions run one hour and include leader's guides with pre and post show activities and curriculum tie-ins for schools. There is a question and answer session available after the performance. Each season features a different line-up of plays and musicals. Also offered are interactive drama workshops about actors' training to further the child's learning experience and provide curriculum connections to the production. Residencies called Getting Dramatic may be booked for classes wanting to learn drama skills and perform themselves.
Program Descriptions
Chicken Little: A country-western musical based on the fable where Chicken Little gets hit on the head with a falling acorn and alerts Henny Penny, Cocky Locky, and Goosey Poosey that they better go tell the city mayor that the sky is falling down. Foxy Woxy tries to trick and eat them. However, Chicken Little finds courage and outsmarts him. The barnyard gang makes it big in the city as the “Chicken Little Band.” Available March, April, May, 2009.
Triple Play!: Three actors act and sing the famous three stories of Three Pigs, Three Bears, and Three Little Kittens. Geared for the youngest theatre-goer. Available year-round.
Dramatic History With Danny Cox: The singer/actor/songwriter puts his unique dramatic stamp on African and African-American history. Content can be tailored to the group with a focus of the life of Frederick Douglass, John Henry or the role of African-American cowboys in Westward expansion. Available year-round.
