Kansas Arts Commission
Kansas Arts on Tour Roster

Step 3: Roster Artist Responsibilities

  • Artists are responsible for procuring the rights and paying the royalities due on materials presented as part of their programming.

  • All works and all rights to works produced by the artist (except creative work produced by children or community members under the guidance of the artist) remain the sole property of the artist. However, the artist is expected to work with presenters to allow public release of images for educational and promotional purposes.

  • Once appointed to the Roster it is understood that all details of the artist's program, including fees, are established until the next annual Roster update process (see Lifecycle of the Roster Program).

  • Each Roster Artist is responsible for promoting to and contracting with presenters. Commission staff is available to advise in this area.

  • Roster Artists must be available to tour throughout the state.

  • Underwritten performances/activities must take place outside the artist’s home county.

  • Underwritten performances/activities may not take place inside a private dwelling.

  • A faculty member must be present during any K-12 school activity utilizing a Roster Artist.

  • All Kansas Arts on Tour Roster Artists’ fees in the application should be consistent with the artist contract(s).

  • Roster Artists may not charge fees greater than what they charge for comparable programming offered through other listing services (e.g., the Kansas Humanities Council Speakers Bureau or the Mid-America Arts Alliance Regional Touring Program). The Kansas Arts Commission requests full disclosure of these additional listings.

  • The Kansas Arts Commission logo must appear in all promotional and printed materials such as programs, catalogs, posters, websites, and news releases. The following credit line must appear in all promotional and printed materials such as programs, catalogs, posters and news releases: "This program is presented in part by the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency."

  • Artists serve a three-year term on the Roster. Artists must reapply in the second year of their term to avoid a lapse in roster listing.

  • Artists must inform Commission staff of any contact information changes so that the Roster reflects accurate information at all times.

  • Presenters and/or Roster Artists are encouraged to include a reasonable cancellation clause in their contracts that releases both artist(s) and organization should Kansas Arts Commission funds not be available.

  • Roster Artists must complete and submit the Presenter Evaluations for Kansas Arts Commission underwritten events within 30 days of the contracted event.

  • Kansas Arts Commission funding is primarily derived from an annual allocation of funds designated by the Kansas Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. Artists and presenters are urged to invite and thank their state and federal legislators for their support of any programming funded by the Commission.

  • Violation of these artist responsibilities could result in the artist's suspension from the Roster and thereby jeopardize future funding opportunities through the Kansas Arts on Tour Grant Program.
