Artistic Director Larry Carter has been performing and producing concerts for more than 25 years, including being a four-time (and current) Kansas Folk Instrument Champion.
Program Description
The Pied Piper
Combining music, storytelling and theater, Larry Carter presents a lively evening of entertainment for the whole family. The fun starts with an afternoon Children's Theater Workshop, followed by an early evening performance that includes original, all-ages music on guitar, banjo, baritone cittern, and - of course - pipe (native flute). The highlight is during the Pied Piper storytelling when the workshop kids join him on stage to present a song and dance scene from his musical melodrama Pied Piper: The Rest of the Story. (60 minutes)
For those with a larger budget, his six-person theater troupe, Carter Performers, presents his one-act Pied Piper musical melodrama starting with a more challenging Children's Theater Workshop. The workshop kids then join the performers on stage that evening as the Rats and then as the Children of Hamelin. Carter's version of the traditional Pied Piper tale can spark a wide range of family discussions regarding moral duties, environmental activisim and learning to trust your instincts. The actors are all accomplished musicians, so the show starts with a concert by Carter and his troupe that introduces each of the cast members. (90 minutes)
The experts say...
"I loved the song where the rats come in. I still sing the song A LOT!" - Madeline, age 5
"The Satanta Arts Council has hosted many performers from the touring roster and the Carter Performers have been among the best received in our community." - Karen Burrows
