The Kansas Arts Commission is pleased to announce a new professional development program for the executive leadership of Kansas arts organizations. We are partnering with the University of Kansas Public Management Center to offer a free two-day institute on arts and cultural organization leadership and management.
This special two-day institute is being offered to new and experienced executive directors or unpaid executives working in Kansas arts and cultural organizations. It is open to those in organizations that received Kansas Arts Commission operational support grants in fiscal year 2008 or that are eligible for operational support in fiscal year 2009.
-
Due to the anticipated demand for this program, only one person per organization may enroll. If the organization has paid staff, the person attending must be the full- or part-time paid executive director or chief executive officer.
-
If the organization does not have paid staff, the attendee should be a board member who carries out the duties of an executive director (i.e., the person who is responsible for overall programming, fundraising, supervising others, etc.).
-
Enrollment is limited to 35 people on a first-come, first served basis. When enrollment capacity is reached, we will create a waiting list.
-
We request that those enrolling commit to attending both days.
While the program is being offered for free, attendees or their organizations are responsible for covering the costs of transportation to and from Topeka, meals and hotel. The Kansas Arts Commission has reserved a block of rooms at the Topeka Ramada Inn for July 15 for $75 each (including tax and breakfast) and will organize a no-host dinner for the evening of July 15 at a nearby restaurant. An inexpensive lunch will be made available for attendees on both days. We estimate that the cost for attending this program (food and hotel) will be approximately $120. Information about meals and hotel accommodations will be forwarded to enrollees.
This is the kind of program that many executive directors have been requesting. We are pleased to be able to offer it this summer and hope that it will help Kansas arts organizations succeed long into the future. Should the institute prove to be a success, we will offer the program again in whole or in part.
